What is Drawn from Cocoon?

Drawn from Cocoon^® is an artisanal studio based in Gqeberha, South Africa, creating one-of-a-kind hand-painted silk scarves and wraps. Each piece is individually designed and painted by the artist and founder Destiny Harris, transforming silk into wearable art.

Are your scarves and wraps handmade?

Yes. Every piece is individually hand-painted on 100% mulberry silk and finished with a hand-rolled hem. Each scarf and wrap is created by hand and represents an original work of wearable art.

What type of silk do you use?

All Drawn from Cocoon^® pieces are created on premium 100% mulberry silk, selected for its softness, drape, and luminosity to complement the artwork and enhance the natural beauty of the silk.

What is a hand-rolled hem?

Each scarf and wrap is finished with a hand-rolled hem, a traditional finishing technique in which the edge of the silk is carefully rolled and stitched by hand. This refined detail enhances both the durability and craftsmanship of the finished piece.

Are your pieces limited editions?

Each scarf or wrap is considered an original artwork. While a collection or theme may inspire multiple works, every hand-painted design remains an individual artistic expression.

Where are your pieces made?

All artwork is designed and hand-painted in my studio in Gqeberha, South Africa.

How long does it take to create a piece?

The creative process can take several days, from conceptualisation and painting to setting the colours and finishing the silk. This slower approach allows each piece to be created with care and attention to detail.

How should I care for my silk scarf or wrap?

To preserve your wearable artwork:

• Hand wash gently in cool water using a mild detergent suitable for silk.
• Do not bleach or soak for extended periods.
• Avoid wringing or twisting the silk.
• Dry flat or hang away from direct sunlight.
• Iron on a low silk setting while slightly damp if necessary.

Professional dry cleaning is also suitable.

Will the colours fade?

When cared for correctly, the colours are designed to remain vibrant. As with all natural fibres and dyed textiles, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may gradually affect colour over time.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Drawn from Cocoon^® do not offer a separate gift-wrapping service. However, every artwork is thoughtfully presented and packaged in a way that enhances the unboxing experience, making each piece feel special from the moment it is received.

Is my scarf or wrap considered wearable art?

Yes. Each piece is an original artwork created on silk and designed to be worn, collected, and treasured. Drawn from Cocoon pieces combine artistic expression with craftsmanship, resulting in wearable art that celebrates individuality.

Do you ship throughout South Africa?

Yes, Drawn from Cocoon^® offer complimentary shipping throughout South Africa. Delivery times may vary depending on your location.

Do you offer international shipping?

International shipping may be available. Shipping costs, customs duties, and delivery times will vary according to the destination country.

Can I return my purchase?

Because each piece is individually hand-painted and considered original artwork, returns are assessed on a case-by-case basis. If your item arrives damaged or there is an issue with your order, please contact Drawn from Cocoon^®  within 48 hours of receiving your parcel.

Do you have a physical store?

Drawn from Cocoon^® is an online-only artisanal studio based in Gqeberha, South Africa. It does not operate a physical retail store. 

Can I collect my order?

At this time, Drawn from Cocoon^® do not offer, order collection or in-person pickup. Every order is carefully packaged and shipped directly to the delivery address provided at checkout, ensuring each artwork arrives with the same thoughtful presentation and unboxing experience.

Do you accept custom commissions?

At present, Drawn from Cocoon^® does not accept custom commissions. This allows the studio to focus on creating original works and collections.

Will my scarf look exactly like the photographs?

Every effort is made to photograph each piece accurately. However, colours may vary slightly depending on screen settings and lighting conditions.
